Application of SBAS and ABAS Systems in Lithuanian Aviation

Vytautas Vencius

Abstract

Existing satellite navigation is not sufficiently precise to enable an aircraft to descend using  its data. Also the existing satellite navigation systems are affected by a wide range of interference which is caused by environmental influences and distorts of signal. In order to avoid all glitches  and to land aircraft using only satellite navigation “Space Based Augmentation System” and “Aircraft Based Augmentation System” augmented satellite navigation systems are being developed. They, may be implemented in different ways: as a complex calculation algorithms, online companions of sight. These systems will also start using satellite navigation as the main navigation system for aircraft. Lithuania, meanwhile, is  using radio navigation for approach and landing phases.
