This article is intended to commemorate the 80^th anniversary of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas flight across the Atlantic. Probably there is no need to discuss the extraordinary impact of this flight on the Lithuanian nation and the example of unselfish service to this nation shown by these heroes. This has been discussed thousands of times. The most important thing is to understand the sources from which these heroes drew spiritual strength and motivation and to see whether their spirit is still alive among us. This article analyses the problems, course of this flight and its significance to the Lithuanian people.
