A Usage of New Technologies Applied for Aircraft Precision Approach

Beata Andžejevska

Abstract

The sky above Europe is becoming increasingly congested as are Europe’s major airports. This grow in air traffic means smaller airports also need to be safely accessible at all times. It could be achieved by using new technologies applied for aircraft precision approach. Nowadays widely used Instrument Landing System (ILS) could not service fast growing air traffic, so there is a need to replace this system with up-to-date ones. Currently, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) such us Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) and Ground Based Augmentation system (GBAS) are being explored and introduced to service as precision approach providing systems. This system provides curved approach paths and reduces separation between aircraft. The major advantages of these systems are accessibility and lower maintenance costs. To improve air traffic management it is necessary to integrate new technologies for precision approach.
