Multilateration Sysytem Project for Vilnius Airport
Vaidotas Kondroška
Abstract
A possibility to implement MLAT in Vilnius airport is being considered. This system would supplement ground movement radar system, which currently provides information from primary radiolocation, and with the help DAESS system would also enable airspace surveillance. DAESS receives signals that are being transmitted from transponder‘s mode A/C, mode S or ADS-B with information on which aircraft‘s position is being determined using hyperbolical method. MLAT receivers receive 1090 MHz band signals and interrogate on 1030 MHz band. The project is being prepared according to the airport safety requirements and equipment performance capabilities. DAESS system’s elements should be placed according to airport’s obstacle requirements stated in ICAO Annex 14. System equipment should be placed so as not to cause danger for maneuvering, landing or taking-off aircraft. Installation of this system would enable air traffic controllers to work safer and more expeditious even in low visibility or during dark period of the day.
