Research of Internal Combustion Engine Efficiency Increase Using Hydrogen as Fuel Additive

Andrius Kaizevičius

Abstract

Nowadays there is a need for new non-organic based fuel source, which would decrease fuel prices and emission level. One of possibilities to achieve those results is to use hydrogen produced by electrolysis. Experiments were carried out to evaluate the influence of hydrogen addition to inlet air on performance of petrol engine. Fuel consumption, exhaust gas temperature and other parameters have been established during practical experiments.  These parameters were used in theoretical calculations to establish following parameters: engine thermal efficiency, specific fuel consumption, engine brake thermal efficiency, engine brake specific fuel consumption.
